Before I start may we please pause for a moment to remember one of our very own Sub Council 1 family members.

Mellina de Kock sadly left us to be with our heavenly father on 6 January. The celebration of her life was held on Saturday, and the packed church was a clear indication of the part she played in so many people’s lives.

It was a beautiful send-off, but we certainly have all been left with broken hearts and a void in our lives. She was an incredible woman who left a sweet scent wherever she went.

She always knew how to make people feel better. It was never about her.

Her kind heart and the incredible love she had for those around her were an example to us all.

The very first sub-council meeting of 2023 was recently held, and although there wasn’t a long agenda we are tackling the year ahead.

Last year was a jam-packed year filled with finalising many outstanding items and making many plans for the term ahead.

We quickly became a family, and working together so well certainly paid off.

We started last year hitting the ground running and needing to familiarise ourselves with one another and our new responsibilities.

Together with the sub-council administration, which has been beyond fantastic, we managed to end 2022 off on a good note with many successes reached throughout the year.

I see 2023 being no different in terms of successes. All the councillors are already operating full-steam.

Thank you to all those who supported me by taking some of the load while I had some time off over December.

A special thanks to Councillor Swart who dealt with many ward queries on my behalf.

Well done to each of you for your achievements. It feels as if it was just yesterday that we were looking at the start of our projects and here we are moving towards the end of the financial year with great speed.

I look forward to seeing the end-result of all the projects as well as starting off on the new lot of projects in July.

Well done to each of you for your achievements last year.

2023 we are ready for you!
