The Atlantis Business Chamber (ABC) is an organisation born from the plight of the community for a representative body that will address the economic challenges faced by businesses in Atlantis.
In 2014, after a long battle to get government to live up to its promises, founding member and chairperson Michael Marote took the initiative to organise small business and established the Atlantis Business Chamber, where he was elected as the chairperson in 2015.
As a business owner himself, he is fully aware of the obstacles and challenges small business owners are facing, but he is also knowledgeable of the potential of business growth in Atlantis.
The Atlantis Business Chamber is a non-political organisation and has no ties with any political party.
The ABC aims to be a vehicle through which small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) can be assisted.
Marote is of the opinion that entrepreneurs should unite and organise themselves to become a powerful force in the business sector.
The ABC believes small businesses are the best creators of employment and for this reason they are committed to supporting upcoming and existing SMMEs.
“The Chamber is geared towards transforming the economic situation of Atlantis. The ABC therefore invites investors, business and government to collaborate with them and join this battle against poverty.
They would like to encourage other Macro Enterprises and Industrialists to become part of our SMME Development and Upliftment Programme (SDUP) and assist in the economic upliftment of Atlantis,” says Marote.
Any registered business who is in the operational area of the Chamber can apply to become a member. The Chamber initially started with 49 members in 2015 and now has a membership of 75 on their database.
