The Atlantis Business Chamber (ABC) has been hard at word since its inception more than a year ago.
“Some of the focus areas for the organisation over the last few months have been to assist small, medium and micro-enterprises [SMMEs] with registration, to become compliant, so they can benefit from developments taking place in Atlantis and surrounding areas,” explains chairperson Michael Marote.
The organisation has put a strong focus on fostering a good working relationship with the City of Cape Town in order to empower and uplift business in Atlantis.
“The ABC holds regular information sessions and workshops to inform businesses of future developments,” Marote said. “Recently the chamber met with the main contractor currently rebuilding Avondale Primary school, and made it quite clear that local contractors should be empowered and benefit from the tender process.”
They are also in talks with SEDA to arrange workshops for SMME owners regarding the correct tender and quotation processes.
The chamber is also represented in both wards in Atlantis, on sub-council 1, where important business decisions are taken.
Marote says the ABC has an open-door policy and encourages businesses to register on its database, so business activities can be centralised.
