Come and celebrate all the goodness Atlantis has to offer.
The #MyAtlantis Pride Festival, which takes place on Saturday 30 September from 12:00 to 17:00 at Dollies Centre, Wesfleur Circle, aims to start a movement among the youth in Atlantis, showing them alternatives to gangsterism and drug abuse by promoting positive behaviour and showcasing positive role models.
“We often tell the youth to stay away from gangs and drugs, but we fail to show them positive alternatives,” explains one organiser Michelle Fortuin, founder of Xtreme Youth, a non-profit organisation working with young people. “This festival aims to change that by getting various community organisations in one place.”
The festival is being arranged in conjunction with Weskus Nuus, Radio Atlantis and supported by West Coast College, Women on the Move, World Vision, Impact Media, Vision Music Records, MK1, Velocity Athletic Club, Morgan Jacobs, Shane Green, Avondale Drum Majorettes and community leaders.
The #MyAtlantis Pride Festival aims to change the mindset of our youth and instil a sense of pride for where we come from.
According to musical director Tom-Lee Maya, some of the musicians on stage on the day include Talitha, Tashna B, Sis Kippie, Christyle, Nallie New Moves, Grant van Rooyen, I Ras and Honourable Antonio, Cheslyn, William Jacobs, DJ Jason Petersen, and many more.
There will also be food stalls and a heritage exhibition and information stalls on the day.
