The Atlantis police have recorded a spike in contact crimes in the area, most of which occur in-house.

However, the community is warned that any kind of abuse, whether by injuring another with bare hands or any weapon (knives, knop kierries, bottles, and so on) is deemed a criminal act. These are punishable by law and can lead to imprisonment and a criminal record.

The community must also be aware that walking alone in areas such as Dura Park, Sampson Road and Charl Uys Avenue can be dangerous at certain times of the day and over weekends.

Persons shopping at the mall must also refrain from walking with their valuables in the open. Grosvenor Road, Saxon Sea has also been highlighted as a problematic area in the early morning and late afternoon.

Persons going to work are requested to try and make use of fellow family or friends, to walk with them at these times. Neighbourhood Watch members are also identified as being very helpful if requested, especially in these areas.

They must also use transport if buying large amounts of groceries. When reporting a stolen cellphone they must ensure they have an EMEI number. This will assist police in tracking the phone much sooner. Members of the community are requested to work closely with the police to combat crime in the different areas. Teamwork is key to decreasing crime in Atlantis, say police, and people must make use of the police emergency number 10111 when needing assistance.
