As part of the City’s support for micro-enterprises, a workshop was held on 6 April at the Wesfleur Library.

It was attended by about 55 informal traders and small business owners.

“This workshop is a step in the right direction,” declared the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Area North, Councillor Suzette Little.

“One of our transformational priorities in the City’s Organisational Development and Transformation Plan is to ensure the economic inclusion of our micro-enterprises.

“We need to create an enabling environment to help our most vulnerable residents who want to start up or manage a small business and want to participate in the local economy. Workshops like this help us to do just that.”

Workshop participants sought help in drawing up business plans, identified as a major challenge. This, they agreed, prevented them from growing and expanding their business footprints.

The City’s Enterprise Development Department representatives explained its supply chain management processes and Preferential Procurement Policy Framework Act, which presents increased opportunities for small business. They outlined services available for start-ups and SMMEs to register and reduce challenges.

Subcouncil 1 Chairperson Councillor Cynthia Clayton said she’ll serve the community’s interests and help generate business in the Atlantis district.
