This week is your last chance to register your little one for a new school for 2020.
School enrolments close on Friday 15 March and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is urging parents and guardians to make sure their children are placed for next year.
“Every year the main hindrance to placing children in schools is late enrolment, and the onus is in fact on the parents to ensure that their child is enrolled in schools timeously,” says Education MEC Beverley Schäfer.
The department is also warning against fake notices for school enrolment for 2020. According to the department, the fake advert reads: “2020 Grade 8 and Grade 1 student enrolment is currently open for all schools that are in the Western Cape. Registration is open until 15 March. You cannot register the students directly at the school all you need to do is come at Silulo Ulutho Technologies bring with you your ID, your child’s birth certificate, the last report, which is the 2018 December report and you will be charged a fee of R50. Please register your child as soon as possible so is to secure a place for the for next year.”
The WCED makes it clear that this note is fake. Anyone looking to enrol children for the next school year can apply online or go to the school of their choice.
“Firstly, parents must enrol at the school or on the WCED website (https://admissions.westerncape.gov.za/admissions/login) – we are not aware of any official or authorised enrolment station at the company named on the notice/advert. Secondly, parents cannot be charged a fee to enrol their child at a school,” the department explained.
“The WCED has called the company that is on the notice/advert. A man from the Du Noon office answered and confirmed that they were encouraging parents to register online with them. The department investigated further and called the school in question. Officials found that someone was trying ‘to capitalise off the poor in this process.’ Parents who do not have access to digital resources to apply online, even if it is at one of our pilot schools, may request a paper-based application form instead.”
