Foundries, the well-established engine manufacturing company recently came to the aid of the growing Kyousei Kazoku karate school. It sponsored the club with 60 tatami mats that adhere to worldwide karate standards with adequate shin and hand protection.
The handover by Foundries’ human resources department took place at the multi-purpose centre in the Atlantis industrial area, where the club’s dojo is located.
“The mats will be used for training on, as winter makes the floor cold for bare feet,” sensei Alphonso Afrika pointed out.
Afrika says the club has more than 20 national karate titles and members dominate local and provincial events.
“By getting the opportunity now to train on the world-class mats, the students can now even aim higher by competing on the world stages of karate,” he said.
The club expressed its gratitude to Atlantis Foundries for assisting it and thus opening the doors for students/kids of Atlantis.
“Words will never be able to express fully the meaning of this sponsorship to our karate club,” Afrika said. The best way to show appreciation to kazoku (meaning family) is through results, he added.
