Karate Kyousei Kazoku ended the season and year on top at one of the world’s biggest karate championships.
Five students from Atlantis and Darling travelled to Durban to compete against top countries at the Commonwealth Games. The championships, which had more than 800 entries, were held at the end of November.
Elridge Plaatjies, Chloe Fisher and Chrisandro Flemmer took third place in their respective Kata categories. Jamy-Lee Fisher and Keagan Pienaar won second place, respectively, also in Kata.
Sensei Alfphonso Africa said the win was a highlight for the students and the club. “I am immensely proud of the team,” he said. “This was one of the biggest events on home soil. and they all won medals.” Africa also thanked the club’s supporters for their continued involvement.
