An After School Game Changer programme, jointly organised by the Western Cape Government and City of Cape Town, is being offered at Wesfleur and Avondale libraries in Atlantis.
Over the school holidays even more learners have made their way to the library for various recreational and educational activities offered by the library staff and after school practitioners.
A large number of learners have reported to the library in the first week of school holidays.
Activities on offer include a water awareness activity, adults and kids membership play and a reading road trip for learners that will extend over a period of five days.
Furthermore, the learners participate daily in story time and educational activities, board games, rope skipping, poems and rhymes, awareness activities, chess club and educational games.
“Every day we face new challenges but with the help of the scholars and colleagues we can overcome everything,” said Carol Ann Adonis, a after school practitioner.
“We create a safe space for all the children, and this gives them the opportunity to express themselves and be themselves.”
The aim of the activities is to teach children leadership skills while they have fun. A large group of learners has taken the opportunity to spend their school holidays at Avondale library.
Through the After School Game Changer Programme learners are participating in various recreational activities such as chess, board games, kerem board, dominoes and table tennis.
These holiday programmes complement the after school programmes offered at the libraries throughout the school year.
