Melony Pick of Mamre has been singing since the age of six. Now 43, she has decided to take her music to the next level.

The talented Pick says she looks forward to putting herself “out there” and mesmerise local audiences with her soothing voice, when she hosts her first solo concert on 9 June in memory of her late husband, Herman, at Mamre Hall.

Her face lights up each time she speaks of him. She describes her marriage as a “walk in a park”.

“We had our disagreements, like normal couples, but we always agreed at the end,” she recalled. “What I enjoy the most is that we could talk for hours without getting bored, and the trust and love between us just could never be extinguished.”

Pick says her son, Don (22) has become her best friend after her husband’s untimely death.

“We share the same interest in music, and he will be accompanying his mom at the concert.

He is happiest behind the drums and I with a mic in my hand.

“My husband would have wanted me to turn my dreams into reality and do what makes me happy. I look to God as my source of hope and strength, and I am going to stick to this winning recipe.” Pick would like to thank her parents, Matilda and Andrew Jonker, and music mentor William Jacobs for their support.
