The Atlantis Creative Hub (ACH), a dynamic community-based organisation dedicated to equipping individuals with practical skills, held its first Youth Entrepreneurs Awards on Thursday 24 July.
William Konstabel and René Haruna said this initiative was born from a vision to recognise and celebrate the resilience and innovation of young business owners from the community.
Originally planned for June to coincide with Youth Month, commemorating the historic 16 June 1976 uprising, the event aimed to honour the courage and contribution of today’s youth in a different struggle – economic empowerment. “In a community plagued by high levels of crime, substance abuse, gangsterism and youth unemployment,” Konstabel said, “these young entrepreneurs are carving out a better future not only for themselves but for others through job creation and social impact.
“By acknowledging their efforts we hope to inspire more young people to take bold steps towards entrepreneurship and transformation. We started this movement to create hope for our youth while we celebrate the hard work they put in every day to earn an income. All we need do is show up and be ready for the opportunities that await. The purpose of the entrepreneurship youth awards was purely to honour our young entrepreneurs.”
Konstabel and Angelique Simon of the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (Sedfa) felt it important to recognise these entrepreneurs who fight their way through life, but continue to make a difference in their communities every day.
