Atlantis police are investigating the murder of Neil Griefel (58) at High Flyer Stud Farm on 13 October at about 20:40.
The family were apparently enjoying dinner at their Saxonwold farm, when they heard a knock at the door.
They managed to bolt the door against four males wearing balaclavas and black clothing, but the robbers smashed the main window and gained entry.
In a general scuffle with the intruders Neil Griefel was stabbed once in the chest and died on the scene.
The deceased, his wife and a friend were inside the house during the incident.
The men, whose identities remain unknown, fled the scene with cash, a camera, cellphones and a laptop.
The house’s surviving occupants were treated and taken to a city hospital. Both were traumatised, but in a stable condition.
No arrests had yet been made.
