Atlantic Seafood and the Emmanuel Day Care Centre recently came together to strategise on how to help the Atlantis community overcome their needs in difficult times.
The centre recently received a big donation of seafood products from the local company to be distributed through various community-based organisations to needy families.
Besides being a centre for children with special needs, the Emmanuel Day Care Centre in Sherwood Park, Atlantis also caters for families.
Its 20 permanent staff members, who are from Atlantis, Mamre, Pella and Witsand, educate children through special programmes and projects.
Besides a grant from the Department of Social Development, the centre receives support from parents and from the private sector. The centre has also begun manufacturing products to sell to remain sustainable.
Founder Marie Petersen has now retired, and her work at the centre has been taken over by her daughter, Joyce Anderson, a qualified social worker, along with Catholic Father Ivanhoe Allies, who took the reins from previous chairperson Josi Norfolk.
The board is working to help more and more people in the community, who are getting to know the team in Sherwood Park.
It is believed Atlantic Seafood has chosen the right time to build a relationship with the centre, which can serve as a distribution channel for Atlantis, Mamre, Pella and Witsand.
“Thanks to the support of Atlantic Seafood and other sponsors, we at Emmanuel Day Care can help feed a community in need,” said centre manager Joyce Anderson.
