Andrea Lewis (16) lives for drummies – something that began at a very young age.
In 2006, she was the youngest and literally the smallest drum majorette in the Avondale Primary Majorettes, her mother Liezel relates.
Andrea’s passion for the sport grew each year, and she has received Western Province Majorettes & Cheerleading Association (WPMCA) junior provincial colours and national colours in 2013.
The highlight in her career came in 2014, when she was selected by her coaches to lead Avondale Primary Majorettes, and in 2015 she achieved second place, overall, with her dazzling performance as leader at the Samca Elite League National Championships in Bloemfontein.
Andrea says she joined the renowned Brackenfell High School majorettes as a senior sub-leader in 2016. Now at Robinvale Secondary, she has been a member of the Melkbosstrand Majorettes Club since 2017.
In June, Andrea was again put to the test when her coaches asked her to put her boots on when the team was left without a leader just before the WPMCA championships.
With little preparation she walked onto the field to lead her team, doing so again in July at the Samca President League National Championships, and she was placed fourth overall in the country. Andrea has just been awarded Senior WPMCA Provincial colours and aims to achieve Senior Samca colours.
