Although members of the Reckless Pool Club in Atlantis have been playing together for about four years, they have a string of accolades under their belt.
Most of the members of this club, affiliated with the Western Province Association, have been playing for up to 15 years and over.
Weskus Nuus reported on one of their members, Rudi Meyer’s trip to England in February this year, after he was included in the Springbok Seniors team. Another player, Howard Sassman, has been included in the Springbok Opens Tournament this year.
The group prides itself in creating a healthy environment for youngsters to join the team, with no smoking and drinking allowed in their club house.
This “club house” is Dickie’s Barber Shop in Sherwood Park, where they practise at least three days a week.
In October, they took part in the Pool South Africa Tournament in Margate on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
The club’s players reached the semi-finals of both the A and B Divisions. In 2016, they won the A division.
To participate in the national tournament, the team was subsidised by Witsand-based business owner David Mbulawa, who assisted with the transport costs.
“All the players are extremely grateful to Mbulawa for assisting us and making it possible for us to participate in this event,” said Mogamat Isaacs, one of the club members.
Anyone interested in joining the club and/or supporting it can contact Meyer on 081 333 7569.
