Re-look at hospital parking

The parking space outside Wesfleur Hospital is insufficient and unsafe. Can we not look at parking within the hospital grounds? Our lives are often in danger, especially at night, and our cars broken into.

Monique Johnstone, Principal Communications Officer at the Department of Health, responds: Due to the lack of infrastructure space, the hospital cannot accommodate community members’ parking on the ground of the hospital. All available and suitable space will, first and foremost, be used to improve health services rendered at the hospital. Meetings were held with the Community Policing Forum to assist with providing extra security around the hospital premises. It is not within the hospital’s mandate to provide security outside of the hospital premises, and would require further assistance from City officials, local councillors and more visibility from the police. Safety is a major concern at the hospital, for both our staff and patients, as we often treat patients for gunshot wounds, which requires our security guards to be more vigilant when citizens enter the facility.
