Atlantis and Melkbos Rotary clubs, in proud collaboration with Jansen Forster Optometrists, Atlantic Eye Centre, Eerste River Hospital and the Radiance Foundation, expresses heartfelt gratitude to all partners and volunteers who made the last Saturday Cataract Outreach Day a spectacular success.
Restoring sight, not to mention a sense of dignity, 21 cataract surgeries delivered through community partnership is a striking headline that now has actual meaning for 21 Atlantis citizens whose lives were changed by a single day of care, compassion, and collaboration.
Rotary Melkbos, Jansen Forster Optometrists, Atlantic Eye Centre, Eerste River Hospital and the Radiance Foundation collaborated to provide pro bono cataract surgeries to pensioners and vulnerable community members, restoring not only their vision, but also their independence and confidence.
This initiative stood as a shining example of what’s possible when service, skill and ubuntu came together for the good of humanity.
These procedures, made possible by the generosity of EyePharma (lens donation) and the skill of Dr Steven Lapere, Dr Jonel Steffen and Dr Petronel Sonnekus, have returned independence, confidence and joy to those who struggled long with impaired vision.
For its own part, paying tribute to an initiative that reflected the true spirit of ubuntu, a community coming together to serve with compassion, excellence and purpose, Atlantis Rotary saluted every hand that contributed to this milestone.
They remain committed to expanding access to quality eye care across the West Coast.
Rotary Melkbos and Atlantis were also pleased to recognise the exceptional cooperation with Jansen Forster Optometrists, Atlantic Eye Centre, Eerste River Hospital and the Radiance Foundation.
