The City of Cape Town encourages property owners in Atlantis to adhere to the National Building Regulations and City by-laws by submitting building plans for approval if they intend to undertake building work. This may include carrying out alterations or additions to your property or constructing a new building.

Not only is the submission of building plans the right thing to do, it also provides owners with the certainty that their structures are safe for occupants by complying with minimum health, fire and structural requirements. The submission and approval of plans also foster good relationships between neighbours and is a means of respecting the right of all residents by ensuring that structures do not encroach onto the property of another person.

A building plan is scrutinised and evaluated by the City in terms of the National Building Regulations. This process ensures that the proposed building complies with minimum health and safety standards.

Unauthorised building work may be dangerous and the land owner could face prosecution in terms of the National Building Regulations and needs to pay an administrative penalty in terms of the Planning by-law.

The local Planning and Building Development Management Department office for Atlantis is situated in the municipal building at 87 Pienaar Road in Milnerton. For appointments or enquiries, residents should please call 021 444 0561. Office hours are Monday to Friday, from 08:00 to 16:00.
